Koeberg Road resurfacing commences

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will be resurfacing various portions of Koeberg Road over the next two months. The City wants to thank road users and businesses in the Milnerton and surrounding areas for their patience and support while the necessary roadworks are under way. The project is scheduled to be completed in May 2023, weather permitting.

The following portions of Koeberg Road will be resurfaced:

Koeberg Road and Bosmansdam Road intersection, as well as Koeberg Road and Zastron Road intersection

This work will take place on Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 17:00. Night work has been scheduled for weekends and public holidays from 19:30 until 05:00. The resurfacing will be done in half widths and local residents will have access to properties and businesses.

Northbound and southbound lanes between Section street and Boundary road

Night work has been scheduled for this project from 19:30 to 05:00. Traffic travelling in both directions along Koeberg Road will be affected as work is scheduled to take place on both carriageways. The City has considered the high traffic volumes along Koeberg Road, therefore, this resurfacing work will be done at night with at least one lane open to traffic in each direction. All lanes are scheduled to reopen to traffic by 05:30 on weekdays.

Work will be commencing over the following week, however, road users will most likely only see visible working teams on the ground from 6 April 2023 onwards.

'Koeberg Road is a key main road along the M5 metropolitan route as it links the south with residential areas such as Brooklyn; Milnerton and Dunoon and to Killarney and Montague Gardens, two of the key industrial areas in Cape Town. We need to ensure that this vital link on our road network is maintained and remains in a good condition all year round. We ask that commuters, residents and surrounding businesses remain patient while works are under way. We will try our best to complete the project as soon as possible to limit the inconvenience,' said the City's Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The roadworks along Koeberg Road entail the following:

Installation of sections of the kerb, channel, kerb inlet and one stormwater culvert
Removing the existing road surfacing and replacing the old surface with hot-mix asphalt
Reinstating the road markings
